The introductions and general discussions could be used for chit chat. I have moved the thread there.

As for the CMS, wordpress might be the easiest way to go. It can be turned in to CMS and not just a blog. Though, it may not have a layout of a printed newspaper.

What are your requirements exactly?

Okay, well, wordpress could still be a good way to go if you put in supercache. Is there a specific layout they want?

Hi,

I also have to chime in here... as the resident "Joomla Geek" I would recommend you take a look at Joomla (www.joomla.org). There are a number of add-ons geared toward creating newspaper sites and a number of people have created templates for use on newspaper sites.

You can search the Joomla Extensions Directory for free add-ons (http://extensions.joomla.org/), or you may want to look at iJoomla (http://www.ijoomla.c...magazine/index/) or Joomlart (http://www.joomlart....es/ja_news.html).

You may also want to look at Drupal (www.drupal.org). It's a very powerful CMS, but many developers get overwhelmed by it.

Wordpress appears to have a newspaper plugin and can be used as a CMS, so I wouldn't rule that out either.

If you search Google for the keywords drupal, joomla, wordpress, newspaper you might be able to find some samples of sites created with each of these different programs.

You may want to install and test each app to get familiar with them and see what you're most comfortable with.

Hope this helps :-)

Regards,
Ellen

I would recommend Joomla with the JA Teline II template for news. That's what I use.

How do you like JA Teline III? I have Teline II and need to upgrade. Just haven't taken the time to do it yet (new module positions to learn, although it shouldn't be that bad).

JA Teline III is pretty good, i haven't used it myself, but i am trying to pitch it to a client.

there is very few noticeable changes between II and III.
