Eclipse is a set of open source tools used for various functional reasons - 1 of which being managing software development
http://www.eclipse.org/org/
Whether or not this is the proper tool for you to use specifically is really a decision you would need to make for yourself..
I would suggest researching the project and maybe even testing the product out to determine if it is the right fit for you

Eclipse is an IDE that makes developing Java applications incredibly easy because of its wealth of features such as code completion and refactoring capabilities ,number of free plugins available to further make development easier.

I agree with Andrew Admin that Eclipse aids in various functional areas. So, it actually depends on ur need to determine if Eclipse will be a right choice for ur specific development process or not.
