I have a client adding regional directors/franchise owners to his business. He wants each director to have their own site, he wants to use Wordpress and he wants everything under one domain. So, I'd be looking at six to 15 Wordpress sites installed in subdomains.
While I wouldn't expect more than a few hundred visitors a week for each site and storage isn't a concern, it does seem as if I'd have a lot of databases running with relatively high cpu usage.
Does this sound too bulky for clustered hosting?
Meanwhile, I'll keep trying to sell him on Drupal, which would eliminate the worry.
Too May Subdomains?

I'll let the good Cartika folks respond to the main point of your post, but I did want to mention that the new WordPress 3.0 (coming out any day now) will allow you to use a single install and run any number of sites as subdomains. IOW...
primarydomain.com
dir1.primarydomain.com
dir2.primarydomain.com
...etc., would all run from a single WP install, on the same MySQL database (each sub "site" uses a different set of tables in the same db).
FWIW, $.02
Take care,
Steve

Hello noble - you should be fine with this requirement on our shared cluster.
Also, please see Steve's reply - I think that is the best fit for your needs for this particular client

WP 3.0 sounds like the best option. I appreciate the feedback.
